Jalandhar, January 29 (DNS)- The DIG, Jalandhar Range, yesterday handed over the case of the detention of a minor rape victim and her mother to the Hoshiarpur police after withdrawing it from the local police. DIG Ishwar Singh also constituted a four-member committee headed by Pramod Ban, SSP, Hoshiarpur, for the investigation of the case. An IPS officer, Inderbir Singh of the Hoshiarpur police, will also probe the case. Ishwar Singh said the case was transferred to the Hoshiarpur police for transparent and impartial investigation as per the wishes of the victims’ family. The DIG had marked an inquiry to the local police on Wednesday but following objections from the family members of the victims and activists of the Pendu Mazdoor Union, he handed over the case to the Hoshiarpur police. Led by Tarsem Peter, president of the union, family members of the victims today met the DIG and alleged that the district police was mounting pressure on the aggrieved party to effect a compromise in the case. Chandigarh, January 16 (DNS)- The police probe into alleged rape case going on against Amarinder Singh has so far revealed that the matter is turning out to be a case of implication. The complainant is still untraceable and preliminary enquiry by the police indicates that she was threatened to make a statement against the former Chief Minister of Punjab. The enquiry has also revealed that the organiser of the press conference, where the allegations of rape were levelled, Shamsher Singh Jagera, is an accused in a rape case registered way back in 2003 at Ludhiana. To top it all, he has “refused to join the enquiry”. In a report submitted to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Ludhiana’s SSP Sukchain Singh Gill has asserted that “despite best efforts” the complainant could not be traced. But, her sister and mother were associated with the enquiry. The complainant’s mother told the police that on November 15 last, the purported victim called her up. She said her statement was “recorded in the press against Amarinder Singh”.
