Govt to give jobs to kin of six cops killed in road accident
Chandigarh, Punjab government has announced jobs to the kin of six state police personnel, who were killed in a road accident in Fatehgarh Sahib district recently.
Suitable jobs would be given to a family member of each of the six police personnel killed, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal announced in the state assembly.
Also, Rs 2 lakh to the family of each deceased and free treatment to injured police personnel would be given, he said.
Six Punjab Police personnel, including four constables, were killed and 11 others were injured when their jeep rammed a roadside tree at Lohari village, 10 kms from Fatehgarh Sahib, on March 18.

SGPC to issue memorial coins
Amritsar, January 29 (Doaba News Service)- To commemorate the Sirhind victory of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at the global level, the SGPC has not only planned to come out with gold and silver memorial coins but also decided to make a documentary on him.
It was Banda Bahadur who had marched from Nanded and reached Sirhind to defeat the Mughal army in 1710.
The SGPC has decided to celebrate his historic victory in the shape of “Fateh Divas” at Fatehgarh Sahib on May 12,13 and 14. A nagar kirtan has also been planned from Nanded to Chaparchidi.
“Baba Banda Singh Bahadur had issued coins in the name of the Guru to show his reverence to the Almighty. We are going to issue gold and silver coins to commemorate his victory. To apprise the Sikhs of the valiant deeds of Baba Banda Bahadur, who was one of the most respected Sikh generals, we are also coming out with a documentary film on his life. Panchayats get Rs 90 lakh
Fatehgarh Sahib, January 26 (DNS)- As many as 60 gram panchayats of the state were awarded with Rs 1.5 lakh each for improving sex ratio in their respective villages during a state-level function held at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College yesterday.
Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was supposed to distribute the cheques among village panchayats, failed to reach the venue. Punjab Health Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla did the needful.
Speaking on the occasion, Chawla said the panchayats could utilise these funds in various developmental works for the uplift of girl child and other pending works of their villages.
She said the sex ratio in the state had improved. “During the 2001 census, the state recorded a poor ratio of 796 females per 1,000 males. The recent surveys have shown this figure soar to 838 last year,” she said.
She said 1,700 doctors had been recruited by the state government. Also 1,180 doctors were recruited through zila parishad, 312 through the Punjab Public Service Commission, 102 through the National Rural Health Scheme and 43 other doctors through direct recruitment.
