Anna recuperating; doctors advise him not to fast for 1 month

Pune, Supporters of Anna Hazare would be able to have a sigh of relief as the social activist today said he is recuperating well and there is no need to worry about his health. Not only that, the anti-corruption crusader also wished eveybody a happy new year. "People are thinking that my health has deteoriated, but its not so. It has improved considerably and I will get well within a few days. I wish everybody a very happy new year and request people not to worry regarding my heath," Anna told people who were waiting outside the Sancheti Hospital. Anna was admitted to the hospital today as he was not well for past few days. Talking to UNI, Dr Parag Sancheti said Anna has been advised complete rest and instructed not to go on fast for at least one month. "He needs complete rest and should avoid fasting for a month. All five AMRI hospital Directors surrender to police

Kolkata, All the five wholetime Directors of AMRI hospital surrendered to city police as an FIR was lodged against them in connection with today's devastating fire that claimed 73 lives at the south Kolkata private hospital. According to informed sources, after the Fire Brigade authorities filed an FIR against the AMRI authorities, charging the latter with criminal negligence in terms of fire safety measures, all the five Directors - Mr R S Goenka, Mr Manish Goenka, Mr Prasant Goenka, Mr S K Todi and Mr Ravi Todi - went to the city police headquarters at Lalbazar and surrendered before a competent authority. However, it was not yet known whether they would be produced in court and granted bail later today. In one of the worst cases of fire in a hospital, perhaps in the whole world, as many as 73 people, mostly patients, were suffocated to death at AMRI private hospital at Dhakuria in South Kolkata early this morning. West Bengal Chief Minister confirms 55 deaths in AMRI hospital inferno

Kolkata, The death toll in the devastating fire in South Kolkata's AMRI hospital pushed up to 55 with the recovery of more bodies of patients today. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who visited the spot, confirmed that so far 55 people were killed and five of them had been identified. Official sources said 42 bodies were lying in the state-run SSKM hospital and the rest in three other hospitals. The sources said two nurses of the hospital, who were on duty in the female general ward and a police officer who took part in the rescue operation, also died in the incident. It was believed that most of the victims, some of them admitted to ICU, ICCU and ITU, died due to suffocation. Ms Banerjee later issued an order for the arrest of few key persons in the hospital administration as the Fire Brigade lodged an FIR against the AMRI authorities. Leader of the Opposition Surjyakanta Mishra also rushed to the spot. Fire Brigade sources said most of the patients, some of them unconscious, had been evacuated with the help of hydraulic ladders while work was still on to rescue others who remained trapped inside the building.
