High Court finds fault in selection of 6 IAS officers from PCS

Chandigarh, February 2 (Doaba News Service)- The Punjab and Haryana High Court has found fault in the selection of six IAS officers from the PCS. The affected include two Deputy Commissioners. They will continue at their present postings till the fresh decision is taken to carry out selections. The officers are Gopal Krishan Singh; Dharam Dutt; Sukhjit Singh Bains; Yashveer Mahajan; Inderjit Singh and Karamjit Singh. Allowing a petition by PCS officer Parveen Kumar, the high court today quashed the combined eligibility list of the state civil services officers dated August 7, 2008. Justice MM Kumar and Justice Jitendra Chauhan also quashed notification dated August 13, 2008, issued by the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, (Department of Personnel & Training), “making appointments of the members of the state civil service of Punjab to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) for the select list years 2007”. Gurmukhi software presented

Chandigarh, January 15 (DNS)- Punjab’s IAS officers got together today for a presentation on software ‘Akhar’, specially designed for using Gurmukhi Punjabi script. The software has been developed by Dr GS Lehal of Department of Computer Science, Punjabi University, Patiala. Organised by the Punjab State IAS Officers’ Association, the presentation focussed on the use of ‘Akhar’ to write in the Gurumukhi script while using an English keyboard. Chief Secretary Punjab SC Agarwal and association president Sarvesh Kaushal stated that the association was committed to endeavour for capacity building in the cadre officers for an efficient and result-oriented discharge of the duties. IAS officer in the dock

Chandigarh, December 18 (DNS)- Punjab IAS officer Harjit Singh is in the dock. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asserted that the officer has apparently tried to mislead the court by making a false averment. Harjit Singh has now been given one opportunity to explain his conduct after appearing before the court. The matter pertains to a contempt of court petition filed by Moga-based district programme officer with the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development Ashok Kumar Sharma in a service matter. Posted as Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Harjit Singh had asserted that an order pertaining to Sharma’s service condition was sent to the Director, Women and Child Development; and was received according to the office record. Appearing before Justice Rakesh Kumar Garg, the IAS officer had also placed on record a photocopy of a letter “showing receipt number 3897”. On the other hand, senior assistant, Directorate of Social Security, Women and Child Development, said the letter dated September 11, 2008, was not received in the directorate office.
