Chandigarh, The BJP held a demonstration at the CBI office here, demanding action against a senior official of the agency for allegedly shielding former railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and his kin by influencing the Railgate probe. The BJP workers sought removal of DIG Mahesh Aggarwal, who, they alleged, had tipped off Bansal's nephew -- Vijay Singla -- before the CBI raid. Chandigarh DSP Vijay Kumar said some of the protesters pelted police with stones. Cops resorted to a mild lathicharge and used water cannons in which former Union minister and local BJP leader Harmohan Dhawan suffered minor injuries. Aggarwal, a 1994-batch IPS officer who has close family links to Pawan Bansal, was inside his office when the BJP workers staged the protest out the CBI building. "Aggarwal not only tipped off Vijay Singla about the CBI raid but also tried to influence investigations against the relatives and close aides of Pawan Bansal. Aggarwal must be shunted out from Chandigarh immediately," said Dhawan.
