Ramoowalia demands jobs for youth

Takhtupura (Moga), January 15 (DNS)- The President of the SAD(A), Simranjit Singh Mann, has reiterated the demand of a free homeland, Khalistan, for the Sikh community, which was the only solution to all political problems of discrimination being faced by the Sikh community in the state and elsewhere in the country. He was addressing a public rally at Takhtupura in the district on Thursday. Rejecting the Nanakshahi calendar, he said after the expiry of the five-year term, the SGPC has no legal right to interfere into the affairs of the Sikhs. The Lok Bhalai Party also organised its separate rally. The party President, former Union Minister Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, flayed the Akalis and Congress men blaming them for doing nothing for the youth of Punjab, who were being exploited by travel agents on the pretext of sending them abroad in search of jobs. Adding that the state government should take adequate steps to provide opportunities of jobs for the youth so that they do not go outside the country in search of jobs, he said there was a need to boost the morale of the youth instead of leaving them in trouble at the hands of the travel agents. Sikh bodies urge Takht to convene conclave

Amritsar, December 30 (Doaba News Service)-Several Sikh organisations here today collectively requested Akal Takht and the SGPC to convene a Sikh conclave to discuss the proposed amendments to the Nanakshahi calendar before a taking final decision on the issue. The Dal Khalsa, the Akhand Kirtani Jatha International, the DSGMC, the Shiromani Khalsa Panchayat, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani), the Sikh Students Federation, the Sikh Youth of Punjab, the Akal Federation and the Shiromani Panthic Council in a joint statement said the calendar was a valuable asset of the community. It would send the wrong message to the Sikh masses if it was unilaterally amended at this stage. Leaders of these groups, including Paramjit Singh Sarna, Manjit Singh Calcutta, Satnam Singh, Kanwarpal Singh, Harpal Singh Cheema, Parmjit Singh Gazi, Rajinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh Mann and Baldev Singh claimed that SGPC chief Avtar Singh was playing a “partisan role” and accused him of being a puppet in the hands of his political masters.
