Ambedkar cartoon row: Four accused sent to police custody

Pune, Four persons allegedly involved in the ransacking of the office of former NCERT advisor Suhas Palshikar in the wake of the row over B R Ambedkar's cartoon have been sent to two days police custody by a court here. The accused, suspected to be activists of the Republican Panthers Party of India, had damaged furniture in the office of Palshikar in Pune University, who resigned as NCERT advisor following row over cartoon of Ambedkar, on May 12. Subsequently, police detained - Rahul Khandare, Subhash Telgute, Balaji Tukaram Gaikwad and Sagar Vitthal Gaikwad. They have been booked for disrupting work and damaging public property. Launch of Chandrayaan-II likely to be delayed: ex-ISRO chief

Pune, The launch dates of 'Chandrayaan-II' may be postponed further, according to Suresh Naik, former group director of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Mr Naik was speaking at a lecture on 'Chandrayaan and its Journey', organised by Pinnacle Concept Learning Centre, here last evening. 'Chandrayaan-II' which was scheduled for a launch in 2013 has been postponed to an early 2014 launch. Depending on the pace of work, there are possibilities of rescheduling the launch date, he said. 'Chandrayaan-II' with two rovers will have a smooth landing, Mr Naik said. A remote sensor attached to 'Chandrayaan-I' had aided the discovery of the presence of water on the surface of the moon. 'Chandrayaan-II' will bring back samples of rocks for examination. 'The project needs to be approved by the government once we are able to prove presence of water on the moon,' he added. Asked about the controversy surrounding ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair, he stated, 'We support promotion only on merit and talent. Doctors claim significant progress in Hazare's health

Pune, Doctors attending to veteran social activist Anna Hazare in Pune noticed significant progress in his health. Dr. Mahendra Kawedia, one of the doctors attending to Hazare, said he is responding well to the medical treatment, as he even began exercise on treadmill and cycle without showing signs of fatigue. "Anna is very happy and he is responding very well. We did not conduct any new tests. Today (Thursday) Anna exercised on treadmill, which is very good. He even exercised on the static cycle continuously for 15 minutes. He did not feel tired due to it. He is sitting calmly and he read newspapers and he even talked to people around him. So overall there is a good progress," said Kawedia. Meanwhile, Dr. Parag Sancheti said the decision to discharge Hazare from the hospital would be taken after a meeting on Sunday (January 08). "As of now we have decided that his antibiotics course will go on till Saturday. On Sunday after our internal core committee meeting we will take decision on when to discharge him," said Sancheti.
