Less power cuts this winter: PSEB
Patiala, January 22 (Doaba News Service)- Power cuts this time is considerably of less duration than the corresponding period last year, with the anti-power theft drive of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) going well and reduction in transmission and distribution losses.
Even though there has been a hue and cry in the state over power cuts, a comparative data compiled by the board from January 1 to January 17, 2010, shows that the board on an average currently imposes power cuts for 2.48 hours per day, whereas the figures for 2008 winters stood at 3.57 hours per day.
The statistics available with us shows that though the demand has witnessed an increase this year but the duration of power cuts has been reduced by 1.09 hours per day. Interestingly, the data shows that there has been a decrease in power supply from various sources this year.
On the basis of average shortfall during the past 35 days, as on January 17 this year, the average shortfall of power on daily basis from the board’s hydel generation is 32.68 lakh units, whereas the power availability from Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) sources has gone down by 32.64 lakh units.

CT Pians welcome winter with warmth
Jalandhar, Jan. 13 (DNS)- With the inception of the New Year 2010, the biting chill has also set in. In C T Public School, under the able guidance and supervision of Principal Mrs. Lakhvinder Kaur, the Activity Incharge Ms. Pooja and class incharges of class IV to XI coducted a sizzling Activity ‘How to keep ourselves Warm’ and free from numerous infections and diseases during these chilly months?
Every Class Incharge accompanied her class students and interacted with the students sensitizing them on how they can protect themselves from the waves of severe cold during this cold and numb weather.
The Vice Principal, Mrs. Anumita Gosal along with the Class Incharges gave the pupils tips regarding their intake of diet, dressing sense, cleanliness and hygiene. The students were advised not to consume cold drinks; rather they should have hot drinks such as hot chocolate milk , bournvita and consume diet containing fats, proteins and carbohydrates.
