Punjab honours Yuvraj with cash prize of Rs 1 cr

Chandigarh, The Punjab government today honoured flamboyant left-hander Yuvraj Singh with a cash prize of Rs one crore for his 'outstanding contribution' in India's World Cup victory last year. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal presented the all-rounder a cheque for Rs one crore in recognition of his sterling performance during the ICC Cricket World Cup-2011. Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Punjab Olympic Association (POA) President Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa were also present on the occasion. Yuvraj, who recently returned from the US after successful treatment of germ cell cancer of lung, has been away from the game for quite some time. Tumour is almost out of the system, tweets Yuvraj Singh

New Delhi, Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh on Thursday revealed that the malignant lung tumour, for which he is undergoing chemotherapy in the Unites States, is "almost out of his system" after the first cycle of treatment. "Got very good news from dr lawrence today! The tumor is almost way out of the system After reading my todays scan !Second cycle has started," Yuvraj, being treated at the Boston Institute of Cancer Research, wrote on his twitter account. The 30-year-old, who went to US last month, has gone bald during the treatment, which will go on till the last week of March before the process of rehabilitation starts in April. The dashing batsman had earlier got a message from US cycling legend Lance Armstrong, whose own inspirational triumph over cancer is well-documented, wishing him a speedy recovery. Yuvraj's cancer treatment may take 4-6 months, says father

New Delhi, Yuvraj Singh's father and former cricketer Yograj Singh said Yuvraj was responding well to the cancer treatment in the US and may take 4-6 months. 'Yuvi is recovering well from treatment for cancer in US the doctors there say he will come back stronger,' Yograj said. Yuvraj's tumour that was detected in October last year was first thought to be benign has been found to be malignant. He is being treated by the same doctor who treated legendary cyclist Lance Armstrong, who was diagnosed with Stage 3 testicular cancer in 1996. The cyclist recovered to go on to win the sport's most prestigious race, the Tour de France, an unprecedented seven times. Yuvraj's ailment was diagnosed at the first stage. 'He is responding well to treatment. In fact the doctor keeps asking him if he belongs to a very strong bloodline,' Yuvraj's father said. Government will help Yuvraj Singh in cancer fight: Ajay Maken

New Delhi, Sports minister Ajay Maken has promised government help to cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who is undergoing chemotherapy in the United States to recover from lung cancer. "Wish Yuvraj a speedy recovery! Asking officials to find the quantum and nature of help required. Government should & will help him," Maken tweeted. Yuvraj, who played a stellar role in India's ODI World Cup triumph last year, has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy at the Cancer Research Institute in Boston. The 30-year-old left-hander has been in US since last month being treated for what was earlier claimed to be a tumour in the lungs by his family. His physiotherapist Dr Jatin Chaudhary has, however, assured that the ailment is curable and the batsman would be fit to resume cricket in May. "It is a rare tumour and is cancerous but it has been detected in stage one itself.
