Chandigarh: Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has resigned as President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), bringing an end to a roughly four-month leadership tussle and internal factionalism within the Punjab Congress unit.

Warring, also referred to as Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, had been serving as PPCC President since April 9, 2022, when he succeeded Navjot Singh Sidhu.

A prominent Congress leader from Punjab's Malwa region, Warring is currently the MP from Ludhiana. He previously served as a three-term MLA from Gidderbaha and also held ministerial roles in Punjab.

Dissent against Warring had intensified after the Congress high command retained him as the state unit chief in July 2026, despite opposition from the Charanjit Singh Channi camp and other leaders.

Supporters of former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and leaders including Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa had demanded Warring's removal, citing organisational issues and divisions within the state Congress.

The decision follows organisational feedback and a review by newly appointed Punjab affairs in-charge Sachin Pilot, who replaced Bhupesh Baghel earlier in September 2026.

The Congress high command in Delhi conveyed the decision to Warring. Reports indicate that he offered to step down or resigned, with the formal change expected soon.
