One Indian national was killed in an attack on the commercial vessel MV Cape Dao, which was heading towards India. The Indian Embassy in Oman confirmed the death on Wednesday.

According to the embassy, 19 Indians aboard the vessel were safely rescued. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday condemned the attack on the commercial ship near Oman’s eastern coast, stating that one Indian seafarer was killed while 19 others were safely rescued.

MEA Condemns Attack

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said it condemned the attack on the commercial vessel MV Cape Dao near the eastern coast of Oman. Of the 20 Indian seafarers on board, 19 were rescued, while one Indian national died.

The ministry expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased. The Indian Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Omani authorities for the early return of the Indian seafarers.

The MEA also thanked the Omani authorities for their assistance and cooperation in the rescue operation.

India Raises Concern Over Attacks on Commercial Ships

The ministry said that the continued attacks on commercial vessels in the region are a matter of serious concern.

The MEA reiterated its call for dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions and restore peace in the region at the earliest. It said attacks targeting commercial vessels, seafarers and civilian infrastructure must stop, while the free and unhindered movement of shipping and trade through the region’s international waterways should be restored as soon as possible.
