Bangkok, October 1: A grey BYD electric car driven by an elderly man crashed into the Thian Fah Foundation, a well-known Guanyin or Kuan Yin shrine in Bangkok’s Chinatown, on Wednesday afternoon, leaving three worshippers injured.

The accident occurred at around 1:13 p.m. The elderly driver was identified as Chairoj.

Among those injured was a 60-year-old woman who became trapped under the vehicle’s bumper and suffered the most serious injuries. Rescue workers used hydraulic equipment to free her before she was taken to Klang Hospital for treatment.

A 21-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were also injured in the incident.

Police said alcohol was not involved in the accident. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash, including possible negligence charges.

The impact damaged the base of the shrine and surrounding structures. However, the Guanyin statue remained intact.

Witnesses said the quick response of people at the scene helped prevent more serious injuries.
