Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar has taken voluntary retirement from service. The state government has appointed him as the new Chief Information Commissioner of Bihar. His tenure as DGP was scheduled to end in December.

According to a notification issued by the Home Department late Saturday night, 1991-batch IPS officer Vinay Kumar had applied for voluntary retirement on September 25, which was accepted by the government with immediate effect. Under the rules, a three-month notice is mandatory before voluntary retirement, but the government has granted relaxation from the requirement in this case.

According to another notification issued by the General Administration Department, Vinay Kumar has been appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner from the date he assumes charge of the post.

Vinay Kumar had recently gone on leave citing health reasons. According to official sources, he will take charge of his new position after undergoing treatment for his health issues.

Following his departure on leave, 1991-batch IPS officer Preeta Varma was given the responsibility of acting DGP. She will continue to hold the position for now.
