Hollyland VenusLiv Review: Over 28 Hours of Live Streaming in Three Days, Here’s My Experience

Ludhiana: Live streaming for long-duration events requires a camera that can remain stable for hours, provide consistent video and simplify the workflow for the person handling the broadcast. I recently used the Hollyland VenusLiv live streaming camera for live coverage for a religious organisation in Ludhiana, and after more than 28 hours of use over three days, the camera has been working fine.

As an editor at Punjab Infoline, my requirement was practical rather than experimental. The camera had to be used for actual live broadcasts where reliability during extended operation matters. Over the three days, VenusLiv was used for more than 28 hours, giving me enough hands-on time to assess how it performs in a real live-streaming environment.

My experience with the camera during these extended sessions has been positive. It continued working fine during the live coverage and proved convenient for the type of long-duration broadcasting required at the religious organisation.

Before VenusLiv, I Used a Mobile Phone for Live Streaming

Before using the Hollyland VenusLiv, I was using a mobile phone for live streaming. The mobile phone also worked fine for shorter-duration live broadcasts and was convenient to set up and use.

However, longer live sessions presented a practical problem. During extended streaming, the phone would heat up considerably and thermal shutdown became a major concern.

The problem increased when the phone needed to be charged while the live broadcast was still running, as charging during streaming generated even more heat.

For short-duration live streaming, I found a mobile phone to be a workable option. But when broadcasts run continuously for several hours, heat management becomes much more important.

This was one of the reasons the VenusLiv proved useful for my requirement. I needed a dedicated camera that could handle long-duration live coverage without the heat-related concerns I experienced while using a mobile phone.

Built Specifically for Live Streaming

The Hollyland VenusLiv is designed as an all-in-one live streaming camera rather than a conventional camera that needs to be adapted for streaming.

According to Hollyland, VenusLiv supports RTMP streaming, allowing users to stream through platforms including YouTube and Facebook by entering a streaming URL. The camera can also save the streaming URL for future broadcasts, reducing the setup required when going live again.

For computer-based streaming, the camera has built-in UVC support, meaning it can be connected to a computer without requiring an external capture card.

Hollyland says UVC streaming supports 1080p output at 30fps or 60fps. With local RTMP streaming, 1080p and 720p resolutions are supported at 30fps and 60fps.

Designed for Long Streaming Sessions

One feature particularly relevant to my use was the camera’s focus on extended streaming.

Hollyland markets the VenusLiv for 24/7 live streaming and says it uses an aerospace-grade heat dissipation system designed to prevent overheating-related interruptions.

This is an important consideration for religious programmes, events, conferences and other broadcasts that can continue for several hours.

In my own use, the VenusLiv handled more than 28 hours of live-streaming work spread across three days and continued to work fine.

Sony CMOS Sensor and 12MP Resolution

The VenusLiv uses a Sony CMOS sensor and Qualcomm CPU and runs on Hollyland’s HollyOS operating system.

According to Hollyland’s support information, the camera has a 1/2-inch sensor and 12-megapixel resolution. It can also record 1080p video and capture 12-megapixel photographs to an SD card.

The camera supports SD cards with capacities of up to 512GB, according to Hollyland.

6x Zoom With Hybrid Autofocus

The VenusLiv provides up to 6x zoom, combining 3x optical zoom with 2x digital zoom.

Hollyland lists the focal length range as 24mm to 135mm, with 1x corresponding to 24mm, 2x to 50mm, 3x to 70mm and 6x digital zoom reaching 135mm.

It also features auto hybrid focus. For event streaming, where subjects may move or the framing needs to change during a programme, autofocus and zoom provide useful flexibility without requiring the operator to constantly make complicated adjustments.

5-Inch Touchscreen

Another practical feature is the built-in 5-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels.

The screen can be flipped, making it easier to monitor the scene and control camera settings. Hollyland says the display uses CalMAN colour calibration.

HollyOS provides touchscreen control over settings including exposure, ISO, white balance and aperture. This makes several important camera controls available directly from the device instead of requiring a complicated external setup.

Wi-Fi, LAN, HDMI and USB Connectivity

Connectivity is one of the stronger parts of the VenusLiv package.

The camera supports dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth 5.0. For situations where a wired internet connection is preferable, it includes an RJ45 Gigabit LAN port.

Other interfaces include HDMI 1.4 output, USB-C 3.1, USB-C 2.0 for compatible microphones, USB-A 2.0, a 3.5mm MIC IN/LINE IN connection, SD card slot and DC power input.

The availability of LAN is particularly useful for fixed live-streaming setups where a stable wired network can be preferred over relying entirely on Wi-Fi.

Audio Options for Live Broadcasts

VenusLiv includes a 3.5mm microphone/line input and USB-C digital audio connectivity. Hollyland specifically lists compatibility through the USB-C 2.0 microphone interface with its Lark C1 and LARK MAX wireless microphone systems.

The camera also has a built-in sound card. Hollyland provides three reverb options — high, medium and low — which can be selected through the touchscreen.

Horizontal and Vertical Streaming

VenusLiv supports both horizontal and vertical live output.

This makes the same camera suitable for conventional landscape live broadcasts as well as vertical content intended for mobile-focused platforms.

Power Options

The VenusLiv operates from a 12V DC input and consumes less than 12W, according to the official specifications.

It also supports external NP-F batteries. Hollyland says a single NP-F970 battery can provide around four to six hours of streaming.

For long-duration fixed broadcasts, the DC power option is particularly useful, while battery support provides flexibility where continuous mains power is not practical.

Size and Weight

The VenusLiv weighs 900 grams, or 31.7 ounces.

Its dimensions are 178mm x 99.7mm x 94.8mm. The specified operating temperature range is -10°C to 40°C.

My Experience After More Than 28 Hours

The most meaningful test for any live-streaming camera is not simply its specification sheet but how it behaves during an actual broadcast.

In my case, the Hollyland VenusLiv was used for live coverage for a religious organisation in Ludhiana for more than 28 hours over three days. During this real-world use, the camera worked fine and proved suitable for the long-duration live-streaming requirement.

Compared with my earlier mobile-phone setup, the biggest practical difference was confidence during longer sessions. A mobile phone worked fine for shorter live broadcasts, but extended streaming created heat-related concerns, particularly when charging was also required during the live session.
