Assam Rifles Seize Drugs Worth ₹6.43 Crore in Mizoram

Assam Rifles has seized methamphetamine tablets worth ₹6.40 crore and heroin worth ₹3.71 lakh in two separate operations in Mizoram. Two people were detained during the operations. Meanwhile, Manipur Police seized brown sugar worth approximately ₹15 crore in Churachandpur district and arrested one person on suspicion of drug trafficking.

Officials said on Thursday that methamphetamine tablets, a highly addictive synthetic substance banned in India, remain among the major drugs smuggled from Myanmar into northeastern India.

Eight Kilograms of Methamphetamine Recovered Near India-Myanmar Border

According to a Defence Ministry spokesperson in Mizoram, Assam Rifles personnel launched a special operation on Wednesday night following specific intelligence about drug smuggling through Crossing Point-1 at Zokhawthar, along the India-Myanmar border in Mizoram’s Champhai district.

During the operation, the personnel thoroughly searched the suspected area and recovered seven packets of methamphetamine tablets weighing approximately eight kilograms. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is ₹6.40 crore.

The recovered drugs were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further action. Champhai district shares a mountainous international border with Myanmar, where maintaining surveillance is difficult.

Heroin Worth ₹3.71 Lakh Seized in Aizawl

In a separate operation on Wednesday, Assam Rifles seized heroin worth approximately ₹3.71 lakh in the Seling area of Aizawl district and detained two people.

Acting on specific intelligence, the personnel handed over the two individuals, along with the recovered drugs and the seized vehicle, to Bawngkawn Police Station in Aizawl for further investigation and necessary legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Brown Sugar Worth ₹15 Crore Seized in Manipur

Meanwhile, Manipur Police seized brown sugar worth approximately ₹15 crore in Churachandpur district. One person was arrested on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking.
