FIR Against Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Opposition Leaders Over Entry Into Akashvani Bhawan

Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with several Opposition MPs, in connection with their alleged unauthorised entry into the Akashvani Bhawan premises and staging of a sit-in protest. The complaint was filed by the Akashvani office.

On Tuesday, Opposition MPs were holding a ‘Save Democracy’ march in protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Police stopped the protesters by putting up barricades on the route and attempted to take them away in buses.

During the proceedings, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra got off the bus and entered the Akashvani Bhawan premises, where they sat on a protest under a banyan tree. Later, other Opposition MPs also joined them. According to police, it took more than eight hours to remove the protesters from the premises.

Police Said No Permission Was Taken for March

Delhi Police said it received information through social media that INDIA bloc leaders would march from Parliament House towards the Election Commission office at around 10:30 am on October 6. According to police, no application had been submitted for the march and no permission had been obtained.

In view of this, security arrangements were made under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), according to the police.

Opposition Raised Allegations Over SIR and Form-6

The Opposition has alleged that the Election Commission did not maintain transparency during the SIR process regarding changes in voter lists and the procedure for Form-6 for new voters.

Opposition leaders also referred to alleged objections raised by two members of the Election Commission and the hearing in the Supreme Court related to Form-6. The Congress has also levelled allegations against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, which have reportedly been rejected by the Election Commission.

Delhi Police is examining the sections imposed in the FIR and further investigation into the matter is underway.
